|5 minutes old and ready to take the world by storm!|
Happy Wednesday! Hard to believe that three weeks ago from today, I was in labor. Wow, time certainly does fly!
I know that after a baby is born, some moms like to talk about and share their birth stories. Don’t worry, I’m not going to go into all the details here, but what I will tell you is this: when giving birth, and pretty much when any medical care is involved, it’s SO important to have a doctor that you trust and believe in.
Throughout my 17 hours of labor, there were all kinds of things that came up and decisions that had to be made that B and I were pretty much clueless about, making the expert’s advice extremely important.
As we neared the end, I was hooked up to more cords and wires than I knew what to do with. But as each one was added, my doctor came in and calmly and rationally explained why each one was necessary to ensure a safe and healthy delivery for our baby.
Several times, Little B’s heart rate dropped suddenly, and all the nurses would rush in, page the doctor, put me on oxygen, and rotate me around until we could get the heart rate back up. In the distance, B and I could see one nurse in the back prepping things for an emergency c-section. Each time, my doctor would come in, showing no signs of alarm, check the monitors, talk to the nurses, and then he would look into my terrified eyes and speak to me calmly and rationally until all was well, once again.
During my labor, through the fears, unknowns, and pain, my doctor was a source of peace, knowledge, and authority, and I trusted him completely. And after a long 17 hour day, when he helped safely deliver our sweet baby boy into our arms, all of the wires, medicine, and monitors were completely worth it. I would do it all over again tomorrow!
In life, we all face a variety of fears, unknowns, and pain, and it’s important that when we’re weathering through, we make sure our hopes are set on the Expert–the One who knows us, who loves us, and who is more than able to help us through anything we may be facing–no matter how big or how difficult it may seem. Nothing is too difficult for our God.
And much like my wonderful doctor, when we’re in the midst of a storm and scared and uncertain of what’s to come, our God is One who can be fully trusted. He will never fail us and is more than able to safely lead us to where we need to go.
