It’s no secret that I love The Bachelor. Ever since I took a writing class in college and tried to do an expose on how fake and horrible the show was, I’ve been hooked. So last night, when ALL of America watched as our veteran Bachelor, Brad Womack, chose between his final two, I was there.
As I watched last night, I started getting a little frustrated at how much is required of each girl. I mean, she gives up her life, leaves her job, and “risks it all for love”. But, she’s constantly having to prove herself to our Bachelor. For you non-Bachelor watchers, frequent sayings are “here for the right reasons,” “put it all out there,” “lay it on the line,” “don’t hold back”, “risk it all for love”, blah, blah, blah…. Until the final two remain and they each step out of the limo wondering, “Was it enough? Am I worth it? Did he pick me?”
Last night, as I watched them open up their hearts and take a leap, hoping desperately to be the final one, I couldn’t help but think, “I’m so glad it’s not like that with God.”
With God, there’s no competition, there’s no unattainable standard we can’t live up to, and there’s never a chance of being rejected.
Yes, God deeply desires our hearts, and loving God requires sacrifice, but the benefits of a deep love relationship with God are incomparable. In exchange for our hearts, we are fully forgiven, redeemed, rescued, restored. When we enter into His presence, we encounter a love like no other — one that is too much to even begin to fathom. A love that satisfies, embraces, and pursues. Never needing to ask yourself, “Will He, or won’t He?” Because He most certainly will!
Sweet friends, in this world, it’s so easy to feel like we’re living under a microscope trying to prove ourselves to everyone and everything, constantly vying for affection of others, but I pray that each of us know and understand how deeply loved and cherished we are by our heavenly Father. Not because God loves everyone, but because He perfectly, specifically, and uniquely loves you.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.”
Expect love, love, and more love!”
