Savor Him

Happy Diner!

One of the most fun parts about exploring a new town is discovering all of the tasty restaurants.  And believe it or not, The Twin Cities have some FABULOUS restaurants.  Already, we’ve discovered delicious Neapolitan-style pizza, a hole-in-the-wall authentic Mexican place, a Sunday dim-sum brunch place, and a fabulous burger joint.  You could say we’ve been eating our way through Minnesota and loving every bite.

But by far, the restaurant that takes the cake has been a French cafe called Meritage.  We’ve been keeping our eye on Meritage, but it’s a little pricey, so we’ve been saving it for our last weekend here.  Saturday morning, however, I discovered that they serve brunch.  Within ten minutes, we were out of our pajamas and on our way!

I know I can be a bit dramatic at times, but I’m not exaggerating when I tell you this was one of the top 3 brunches of my life.  We ate and ate and ate.  One of the things B and I share is a love for is food–we love cooking together and exploring new restaurants–so when we stumble upon deliciousness, we make sure to enjoy it!  We sat outside under an umbrella and feasted on eggs benedict, cheese blintzes with fresh raspberry compote, “frites” with homemade bernaise sauce, homemade beignets, and LavAzza cappuccino.  I think it was the happiest I’ve been since we arrived.  Best. Meal. Ever.

The food was rich, satisfying, and deeply rewarding.   We savored each and every bite.

I continued to think back on our meal throughout the weekend remembering the tastes, flavors, and experience.  (Yes, I’m a bit of a foodie nerd).  As I thought about it, I was convicted by how much easier it is to savor and latch on to delicious French food, rather than feasting on the Words of our God.  How much more different would my life look if I craved, remembered, and savored the rich, satisfying words of our God?

The thing is, our God is incredibly satisfying.  He, and He alone, is the one who truly satisfies our deepest longings and desires and no beignet, no matter how hot and how fresh, comes close to matching His richness.

Eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Isaiah 55:2
When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight.
Jeremiah 15:16
I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:35
