Psalm 23

First of all, I wanted to thank so many of you for your emails, texts, and comments after I shared our update on sweet Neely yesterday.  Honestly, I had no idea how hard it would be to lose a pet, so I hope you know how much I appreciate your sweet words and your prayers.

I’m always blown away by how the friends and family in my life love me so well during difficult times.  I’m grateful for their outpouring of love, but also so humbled, because I feel like I fall short when the time comes for me to step up.  Just want you to know how grateful I am.

Yesterday, I had one friend love me in an incredibly thoughtful and unique way–she sent me a guest post!  Correctly assuming, that sometimes things in life happen that cause you to need a break from blogging, but also knowing how much I desire to keep up with posting, she wrote a little something on Psalm 23 to share with you all.

Before I share it, I must interject that the other day, I was on a conference call praying for a friend in need of healing, and someone read and prayed Psalm 23 over her.  I can’t tell you how powerful it was!  There’s a reason so many people are familiar with Psalm 23–because it’s amazing!  Without further ado, here is our special guest post:

I’ve re-experienced the richness of Psalm 23 for the past eight months or so. Needing to simplify, I decided to meditate on and pray through each of the verses in this short Psalm, one each day. As it typically goes, I discovered there’s so much more there than I had always thought.
In particular, I love the verse, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…” God’s way is to actually give us something good and lovely when our lives feel threatened, difficult, under siege. What hope.
1The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
