Do you ever feel like you have so much to talk to God about you don’t even know where to begin? Sometimes, I feel like I fumble around looking for words that seem to escape me.
The wonderful thing is that God hears our prayers–all of them–the three word prayers, the babbling prays that seem to go in circles–no matter what, He hears them and He listens.
But lately, I’ve been feeling like when it comes to talking to God, I just have no words. So, I’ve been calling in some reinforcements–His word.
Have you ever tried to pray through the Bible? It’s pretty amazing–the words are already there, all you have to do is paraphrase them into a prayer.
Take Psalm 16:7-11–this is one of my favorite passages, but as you read through it, instead of just reading it, you can turn it into a personal prayer to God:
God, I will bless you because you give me counsel and enable my heart to instruct me in the night seasons.
God, I have set you before me.
Because you are at my right hand, I will not be moved.
Because you are at my right hand, my heart is glad–thank you!
Because you are at my right hand, I can rest in your hope.
Thank you that you will not leave my soul in the pit–no not, ever!
Thank you that you promise to show me the path of life as I seek you.
Thank you that in your presence there is fullness of joy and at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Lord, I pray that you will help me to always set you before me. Help me to keep you at my right hand. Thank you that when I’m walking in your presence, I am secure resting in your presence. Thank you that in your presence there is exceeding joy.
There are so many scriptures in the Bible that can help lead and guide your prayer life. I think the Psalms are the best place to start, but you can really start anywhere. Another great Psalm to pray is Psalm 23.
Not only does praying through the Bible give you a template for prayer, but it also gets you into reading God’s word and reinforcing the truths and promises that are in the Bible.
