Everyone around me seems to be doing some kind of nesting…

Cally is setting up her “love nest” in NYC as she gets ready to begin her married life.  (5 days to go!!)

Laura has been working on nest #2 for little Susanna.

Our dog Neely is currently in heat and on Thursday morning, we awoke to a make-shift nest in our living room.  In the middle of the night, she had used the doggy door to bring in all kinds of leaves and sticks and put them all around her bed.

And if that wasn’t enough, last night, I was nearly attacked by an angry mama bird when I went to put something away in the cupboard on our back porch.  Apparently, she thought our cupboard was the perfect place to start her own little nest and was not very happy when I got too close.

There’s something about nests that are cozy, comforting, and safe; a place parents can put together for their little ones to show their role as a provider and protector.

But the best nest of all?  The one our Heavenly Father prepares for us.

In Him, we are safe, secure, loved, and protected.

I just love what Psalm 91 says:

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
      will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty…
   He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
      he is my God, and I trust him…
 He will cover you with his feathers.
      He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
So, nestle on in and enjoy; “dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” (Psalm 37:3)
