I love music. Admittedly, I’m the least musical person you’ll ever meet–my flute lessons in fifth grade lasted just three weeks–but I love the way music can speak to your mood and quiet, excite, or relax you. At the end of a long day, a good song can be the perfect exhale.
Last night, I was sitting in my car heading home after a long day and feeling completely worn out. In the background was Ray LaMontagne (one of my favorites), but I was so lost in my own thoughts, I really wasn’t listening. I was organizing a host of To-Do lists in my head and trying to figure out the answers to questions out of my hand and a few months away.
Then all of a sudden, my mind came back to the present and I heard:
“There may come a time
You just can’t seem to find your way
For every door you walk on to
Seems like they get slammed in your face
That’s when you need someone
Someone that you can call
And when all your faith is gone
Feels like you can’t go on
Let it be me
Let it be me
If it’s a friend that you need
Let it be me…”
And just like that, I was back to exhaling, “Let it be Me…” I listened to it the rest of the drive home on repeat (I’ve been known to overplay songs a tad–just ask my college roommates!)
How wonderful that in our lives, full of daily demands, pressure, and uncertainty, we’re not alone. These burdens we bear are not our own–we have a God who says, “let it be Me.”
When we’re tired, empty, worn out, and defeated, our God says, “let it be Me.”
What an incredible gift!
