He Is Mine Forever

“My beloved is mine, and I am his.”
Song of Songs 2:16 (NKJV)

I want intimacy with Christ – I want to know him deeply – and to be moved by the way he loves me to a point of OBSESSION over him – I think truly, he may be the one thing that is worth obsessing over.  I quickly discount my formal Episcopal Church because I think it is stuck in the past, but NO, oh no…..this Sunday God wanted to reveal his intimate heart to me in the starch beautiful setting of our Liturgical service.
We began to sing a hymn – being tone deaf – and not a music reader – I STRUGGLE with the hymns in church….and then out of now where, the most beautiful Episcopal Hymn I have ever heard sang a sweet sweet love song to Jesus from me.
The King of love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never,
I nothing lack if I am His
And He is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow
My ransomed soul He leadeth,
And where the verdant pastures grow,
With food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home, rejoicing, brought me.
In death’s dark vale I fear no ill
With Thee, dear Lord, beside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still,
Thy cross before to guide me.
Thou spread’st a table in my sight;
Thy unction grace bestoweth;
And O what transport of delight
From Thy pure chalice floweth!
And so through all the length of days
Thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise
Within Thy house forever.

I am taken with my lover, my Jesus – that he breaks any boundaries and shatters my expectations – that he comes into this church setting and screams “I love you, I am the King of Love” and he runs into the high schools and says the same thing – AGH – these words – He is mine forever – no matter the context –

Thank you Jesus for being the King of Love – I cannot know love apart from you – you never fail me, you lead me and you are always with me.  Thank you thank you thank you.  Please give me a heart that sings your praise from a place of LOVE LOVE LOVE.
