God Is Love

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  This is how we know God showed us his love among us: He sent his one and only Son to the world that we might live through him.  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins…God is love.  Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him…we love because he first loved us”
1 John 4:8-10, 16, 19 (NIV)

As we continue on in this season of Lent, may we never forget the world’s greatest demonstration of love—“while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  God is love.  Without Him and the gift of His son, none of this would be possible.

Because of God’s sacrificial love for us, we are now able to love Him and one another.  I pray that as we continue to reflect on the gift of Jesus Christ, God’s love for us will continue to compel our hearts to love Him more.

Lord, thank you loving me first.  Thank you for the incredible way that you loved me by sending your Son to earth to die for me.  As I pray to love you more, I pray that I will never forget where this all began—I can love because YOU first loved me.  I am alive in you because YOU first loved me.  Thank you for the perfect way that you love me.  I want to live in your love.  Lord, with all of my heart, I want to love you.
