“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christthe Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
Can you imagine being a young shepherd boy, working the night shift, trying so hard to keep your eyes open, when all of a sudden, the angels fill the sky heralding the arrival of the Messiah?!? Talk about a great day to go to work!
I love the enthusiasm and joy we see from the shepherds. I love that upon seeing the angel’s words fulfilled, they are bursting to share the good news with everyone around them. After experiencing Christ, they come back eagerly “glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen” (verse 19).
May the Good News of the Gospel be a Great Joy for you and all the people today and always! And may we, like the shepherds, join the angelic host in proclaiming, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Hark the herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled”
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
“Christ is born in Bethlehem”
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”
