Mary, the mother of Jesus, inspires me in so many ways. There is so much to learn from her faith, her obedience, and her heart.
Put yourself in her shoes for a minute…In this passage, she is a teenage virgin betrothed to Joseph and an angel has just informed her that she will immaculately conceive the Savior of the world. If it was me, my mind would be filled with questions, fears, and anxiety—is this really happening? What will people think of me? How am I going to explain this to Joseph?
Mary chooses a different route—she praises the Lord! What is sometimes called The Magnificat, or Mary’s Song of Praise, we see Mary’s heart overwhelmed with praise, and from verse 46-55, she praises the name of the Lord, telling of His deeds, and declaring “the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.”
Lord, I deeply desire a heart like Mary’s. I want a heart that sees and believes what you’re doing and rejoices in your mighty acts. Each day, You are so worthy of our praise. I pray today for a soul that glorifies You and a spirit that rejoices in You. Holy is Your name in all the earth!
