Yesterday was a BIG day! My dear friend Sara Hagerty’s new book, “Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet” was released to the masses. I have longed to hold her pages in my hands for so long and I assure you, her first book does NOT disappoint.
I received an advanced copy over the summer and I’m embarrassed to tell you that up until that point, it was only 1 of 2 books I had actually read cover to cover in 2014….yikes! I say that not so you can judge my lack of reading, but so that you will be convinced that this just isn’t any ordinary book–it’s life changing.
In my life, Sara has been a faithful friend and mentor who always speaks such truth and insight into my life and the things I’m facing. She doesn’t just gloss over the fears, hurts, or unknowns with a “Christian cliche” or a happy Bible verse and send me on my way, but she actually listens and speaks such wisdom and hope into whatever I may be facing.
Each time I’ve come to her, I’ve walked away feeling more encouraged and equipped to handle the mountain in front of me. No matter what the situation may be, Sara is speaks such hope and truth into it, so instead of feeling completely discouraged and helpless, I leave feeling empowered and encouraged to hold on.
“YES! There IS a God who loves me and who fights for me. There IS a God who sees me and who promises to move mountains. There IS a God who hears my prayers and continually acts on my behalf. I don’t need to focus on the problem in front of me, I need to dig deeper and deeper into God and look up.”
Sara’s book has the same effect–as she walks through her story of unfulfilled dreams, disappointment, and loss, she speaks such hope and joy into the hopelessness that we all face. You can’t help but pick up her book and want to know her God in a deeper and more intimate way.
Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet is the next best thing to a coffee date with Sara Hagerty!
“I don’t want to be a hungry soul just for a season. I want to live hunger. This is what draws me to Him. This is what fills every bitter circumstance with the opportunity to know Him more. This is what brings me the sweetness of HIs presence. And hope happens here at this nexus of bitter and sweet.”
