All We Need

“Whom have I in heaven but you?  And earth has nothing I desire besides you.  My heart and my flesh may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV)

An old babysitter who now leads worship for her church wrote a song based on this Psalm that says:

Whom have I in heaven, but you, my King
And Jesus, there is nothing I desire, but you

If all the earth were mine, you’d still be all that I desire
For you are my strength, you are my portion,
You are my ever-present help in time of need.
  I could never live without you;
my heart is in your hands,
I will trust your perfect love for me

This Psalm so beautifully depicts an earnest prayer to love the Lord more.  Crying out to the Lord and acknowledging that He is all we need, He is strengthens our hearts, and He is our portion.  What else do we need?

Lord, you are all that I need. There are so many times when I run after other things, but I know that only you can satisfy me.  I want the cry of my heart to be like the Psalmists—“earth has nothing I desire but you.”  As I continue to pray to love you more, I pray that you will strengthen my heart so that I may excellently love you.  Thank you Lord that you are truly all I need.  You are so worthy of my love.  I love you!
